Alonso honest: 'I felt strong compared to Hamilton'

Fernando Alonso did not immediately fear defeat by Lewis Hamilton during the Canadian Grand Prix. The Spaniard says in conversation with the English Express that he was convinced that his team could offer resistance to Mercedes.
Alonso performed very strongly in the difficult weather conditions of Friday and Saturday. The experienced driver even managed to set the strongest time in the third free practice session, which sent him into qualifying with a lot of confidence.
Alonso managed to set the second fastest time, starting the race behind Max Verstappen. Two places behind him was Hamitlon, who was desperate to beat him. Alonso's hard work in the race proved to be inadequate. While the Alpine driver crossed the finish line ninth, Hamilton took third place.
Alonso stated in the interview that he could have handled Hamilton well. "At the beginning of the race I felt strong compared to Hamilton. We just didn’t have the pace of Verstappen and Sainz, but okay to control Hamilton and the Mercedes," he recalls.
Horner saw plenty of speed from Mercedes
With that, he is saying something different to Christian Horner. The team boss tells the same medium that Mercedes showed as much speed as Ferrari and Red Bull Racing in the course of the race, so the Germans seem to be on the right track.
