Ferrari and Red Bull are warned: 'We're starting to understand that'

Mercedes were in a much better position at the Canadian Grand Prix, much to Mike Elliott's satisfaction. The reigning constructors' world champion remains realistic, but the team finally understands the problems it has been facing all season.
With a third place for Lewis Hamilton and a fourth place for George Russell, Mercedes could celebrate a small party. The German team is used to bigger successes, but the fact that it is finally starting to understand the W13 is a big step forward. Now it is time to attack Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.
Mercedes comes out on top
''As a team we are realistic with ourselves. Leclerc wasn't there and and Perez wasn't there and we were sort of not gifted that place, because we deserved it, but we would've finished fifth and sixth if they would have been in the running," said the Mercedes technical director in the F1 Race Debrief of the team.
"What's really nice is to see a bit more pace from the car on Sunday and to find some direction. I think we are really starting to understand our issues now and are making steps forward as a result. We remain realistic, we've got to work hard. We have to turn that into parts to make the car quicker," concludes Elliott.
