Sainz shocked with engine failure: "I am a bit lost for words"
- Toby McLuskie
Carlos Sainz was involved in a scary moment earlier today in the Austrian Grand Prix, as his engine failed and set the rear end of his car alight. Luckily, marshalls were soon there to help the Spaniard and he is okay, but it came as a complete surprise to him.
"I only knew there was an issue as soon as it happened, there was no feedback from the engine that this was about to happen," Sainz told Sky Sports after the race, "it was very sudden. I am a bit lost for words. A big loss of points for the team, it was an easy one-two."
Crash doesn't affect positives from race
Despite being involved in the scary incident, Sainz was looking at the positives and made sure to highlight these, but also made it obvious that the damage witnessed isn't helpful at all. He added: "[There is] a lot of damage, which is not ideal. It's something we need to look at because the pace was there today and the degradation of our car, as we were fast. I will take it and turn the page as quick as possible."
He finished by showing his sadness with the result and how much could have been gained in the close Championship battle, "we were about to close the Championship lead to Max and Red Bull, and one of the cars didn't finish. It's heartbreaking but we need to keep pushing."
