Horner on copying Aston Martin's rear wing: 'A possible way to go'
- GPblog.com
Christian Horner does not rule out the possibility of Red Bull Racing copying Aston Martin's new rear wing in the future. It is not yet certain whether the clever solution from the team of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll is in line with the rules, as the wing does not appear to be in line with the intentions of the new regulations.
Earlier this season, Aston Martin was suspected of copying Red Bull's car. At the Spanish Grand Prix, the team introduced a B-spec car that looked suspiciously like the Red Bull car. According to the FIA, there was no problem and no further action was taken.
In terms of performance, however, the car was quite disappointing. Vettel and Stroll have had to work hard all season to finish in the points. Aston Martin is only in ninth place in the Constructors' Championship. For the Hungarian Grand Prix, Aston Martin has introduced its own clever solution to create more downforce with the rear wing.
Horner: 'Maybe we are copying Aston Martin'
"If it is according to the rules, it is a possible way to go. And who knows, maybe we'll copy something off Aston Martin rather than the other way around for once", Horner says during the team bosses' press conference, quoted by Formula One journalist Erik van Haren on Twitter.
There has been no word yet from the FIA about an inspection of the rear wing, but the new part will undoubtedly be investigated further. Indeed, the remaining teams have their doubts about the legality of the rear wing.
