Perez reveals 'Red Bull updates made me slower, Verstappen faster'

After a very strong start for Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen has put things right at Red Bull Racing over the last few races. After the Mexican's victory in Monaco, it looked as though he could pose a serious challenge to the Dutchman in the championship. However, the gap has widened over the last few races and Perez is already third in the standings.
At the beginning of the year it was clear that the RB18 suited Perez's driving style much better than Verstappen's. Updates have changed that, however, as the three-time race winner explains in conversation with Sport Bild. "At the beginning of the season I had top speed. Now we have further developed the car and it no longer suits my driving style 100 percent."
Learning to cope with updates
According to Perez, he now needs to adapt as the car with all the updates now suits Verstappen's driving style. It could be a reason for Perez's lesser results and Verstappen's recent victories. "I have to get used to it as quickly as possible and hope that we'll go more in the direction we had at the start of the season".
Then Perez can attack again in his Red Bull, he expects. Nevertheless, he remains motivated to achieve good results. After all, with Red Bull he can drive for the first time at a team where they win the constructors' title. "That's exactly what motivates me. If I wasn't in such a top car, I probably wouldn't be in this sport anymore," Perez concluded.
