Stoffel Vandoorne succeeded Nyck de Vries as reigning Formula E world champion this weekend. The driver worked hard in the final race weekend, but his performance was ultimately enough to take the top prize. Toto Wolff is proud of the driver.
It was the last season for Mercedes in Formula E. Although the Germans were very successful in the motorsport class in recent years, the organisation decided it was better to focus on other fields.
Wolff feels proud of Vandoorne
Mercedes therefore hoped to do something beautiful again this year. Vandoorne was already in an excellent position before the final weekend, so there seemed little to go wrong. However, Vandoorne still had to pull out all the stops to take the world title.
"I'm incredibly proud of all the team to have scored a consecutive double World Championship in Formula E again this year," stated Wolff in the Mercedes press release. "An incredible achievement for an incredible team; and on top of that a 1-2 in the Teams' Championship for Mercedes powered cars [Venturi came second]. That really shows the strength in depth of our racing organisations."
