Mick Schumacher is having a tough time in his second season with Haas F1. The driver is lagging behind his teammate for the time being and apparently has to fear for his spot in 2023. However, Mika Hakkinen believes Schumacher should be given time, he said in an interview with Sky Sports Deutschland.

"Mick has to persevere, get the focus right, accept criticism and feedback and learn from it," the former Formula One driver said in the interview. "It takes time to become a champion. The problem is you don't have much time these days."

Continued collaboration Haas and Schumacher uncertain

Last season Schumacher was teammate of Nikita Mazepin. The Russian, who was forced to leave early this year due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was unable to score a point with Schumacher for Haas.

In the current season Schumacher is on twelve points, doing much better. Compared to his new teammate Kevin Magnussen, however, he is ten points short, so it remains to be seen whether his team will continue with him.

Whatever the outcome: Hakkinen is convinced that Schumacher's name will resonate in Formula 1 for a long time to come. "The name still gives the fans goosebumps. That's why he will always be important to the sport."
