After recently announcing his retirement, tennis legend Roger Federer played his last match on Friday. Several Formula 1 drivers paid their tributes to the 41-year-old Swiss.

Federer joined rival and good friend Rafael Nadal in action in the Laver Cup doubles. There, the duo treated the crowd in attendance to a great match, after which Federer was met with a standing ovation that continued well into the night.

Respect for the iconic professional tennis player is high, also among F1 drivers. George Russell even attended the match in London. "Great to catch up with Roger Federer after the final game of his incredible career. Not just one of the greatest athletes of all time, one of the nicest guys you could ever meet too," said the Mercedes driver.

Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg also paid attention to the farewell of Federer, who decided to give up his wish for one last Wimbledon appearance after more than a year of injury. With his farewell match in London, he concluded an impressive career that spanned 25 years and included winning 20 grand slams.
