More and more young fans are being attracted to Formula 1. Partly this has to do with the popularity of the Netflix series Drive to Survive, but according to Charles Leclerc, another factor may also have played a role in the sport's growing popularity.

F1 has become more accessible

Just when there were no F1 races due to the coronavirus pandemic, Leclerc thinks the sport has attracted some of the younger target audience. "There are more and more young fans, thanks to the series on Netflix and the fact that there are a lot of new young drivers who use social media a lot. During the pandemic we did a championship with video games and maybe that also attracted a lot of interest," the Ferrari driver stated to Muschio Selvaggio-Podcast.

To still provide fans with some action while everyone sat at home in 2020, F1 organised virtual races involving several well-known drivers. Leclerc and Lando Norris were among the drivers who also streamed themselves live via their own Twitch channel. Norris in particular was particularly active and streamed his activities almost daily, with Max Verstappen also occasionally being heard when the two played a game together.
