George Russell is slightly disappointed in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix as he finished in 11th. The Mercedes driver struggled with problems and will have to start from the sixth row of the grid at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. As that starting position is not very rosy, an engine change is being considered.

Possibly new Mercedes engine Russell

It is hard to overtake in the streets of Singapore and so there does not seem to be a whole lot of points to be scored by Russell this weekend. Possibly Mercedes will seize the moment to introduce a new engine. With that extra power source, Russell would be well placed for the rest of the season.

Speaking to ORF after qualifying, Wolff revealed about Russell's problem: "We don't know exactly what happened. Maybe we will use this [moment] to add an engine to the pool." Mercedes will use the next few hours to analyse the data and tie up a knot on the issue.

A new engine would mean a grid penalty for Russell. The current world championship number four would then have to work his way from the back of the field to the front.
