Leak at FIA visible after budget cap saga: 'That would even be criminal'
- GPblog.com
Ralf Schumacher finds it almost criminal that the FIA's reports on the budget cap were leaked to rival teams earlier. According to the former F1 driver, everything should therefore now be on the table.
Even before the FIA had announced anything about the 2021 budget cap results, word came out via Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport and Germany's Auto, Motor und Sport that Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing had exceeded the 2021 budget cap. The FIA itself had not yet clarified, so how did these media outlets get this information?
FIA has a leak
As it comes from Italian and German quarters, there is much speculation about the role Ferrari and Mercedes played in this. Did they have informants within the FIA keeping the teams informed that rival Red Bull Racing had gone over the limit? Schumacher finds that incomprehensible.
''Imagine if the Ministry of Finance always kept certain companies up to date on the current status of investigations against the competition. That would even be criminal. Everything must be disclosed transparently and in the event of an offense the ladies or gentlemen of the FIA must be punished accordingly,'' Schumacher said at F1-insider.com.
For Michael Schumacher 's little brother, it is additionally incomprehensible that the FIA has now handed out the reports, but there is still no punishment for the teams that committed an offence. Now, days pass for that too, while speculation only increases.
