The Mexican Grand Prix will be Charles Leclerc's 100th in Formula 1. The Ferrari driver made his debut with Alfa Romeo/Sauber and after just one season he managed to earn a move to big Ferrari. His next dream is to become world champion in the king class of motorsport, he told the press conference. He also (of course) briefly discusses his chances this weekend.

"It went by quickly," Leclerc insists. "It's a special milestone and hope we can achieve a special race for that. I remember like yesterday when we first arrived in F1 with Alfa Romeo, it was a dream come true. Then I was lucky enough to be chosen as a Ferrari driver, another dream come true. I still have many dreams, one of them becoming world champion and I hope this will become reality as soon as possible, I'm really enjoying it."

Red Bull better in races

In the first half of 2022, it looked like Leclerc would be a serious challenger to Max Verstappen in the world championship, but after the summer break, Red Bull Racing has definitely distanced itself from Ferrari. Especially on Sundays, the Austrian racing stable is lord and master. Red Bull has much better control of tyre degradation than the team from Maranello.

Leclerc, therefore, does not see himself as the favourite for the overall win. ""I think Red Bull will be the team to beat on Sunday, they always seem to find something from the Saturday to the Sunday that we haven't found yet. We are getting there. I don't know if this track will be better or worse, but it'll be close come Sunday." The 25-year-old driver last won at the Austrian Grand Prix almost four months ago.

Battle with Perez

"We are Ferrari, we are working towards winning the world championship. We know that's not possible anymore, we will use these last three races in order to be a better team next year to challenge for the championship again," Leclerc said. "Having said that, second is better than third and we will give everything to beat Checo."
