Hockenheim reportedly not on 2019 calendar!
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
The F1 is expected to announce next year's calendar this week, but Auto Motor und Sport reporter Tobi Grüner already knows that Hockenheim will no longer be part of the calendar next year, with the second American Grand Prix in Miami taking its place.
Like Silverstone, Hockenheim has been known to struggle financially in recent years, as the German venue is losing money every time they host the German Grand Prix. They had already been rumoured to be removed from the F1-calendar, but it seems to be final now. Silverstone, however, will still be part of the F1-programme for at least another year.
The venue that will be replacing Hockenheim is the second American Grand Prix, which will take place in Miami. The other Grand Prix in the United States will still be held in Austin. However, the Miami one will be a street circuit that zig-zags through the city.
Because the calendar will also be longer next year, there will no longer be a tripleheader. 2018 is the first ever time that there are three Grand Prix weekends in a row, and for now, it will be the last time as well.
Expect the 2019 F1 calendar to be published within the next days. 21 races. No Hockenheim. No triple-header. Miami to be included but is subject to confirmation. If it falls through there won't be a replacement.#AMuS
