Marko names suggested successor to Schumacher: 'He has always delivered'

Most Formula 1 teams now know which drivers will be on the starting grid for them next season, but not yet at Haas. While Kevin Magnussen will continue in 2023, Mick Schumacher is still waiting for clarity. Helmut Marko expects Schumacher to leave, he told RTL Deutschland.
Schumacher has been under contract with the US racing stable since early 2021. Expectations surrounding the talent were high, but the driver could not live up to them. Last season he finished scoreless, while this year he lags behind his teammate Magnussen.
Marko mainly noticed that the team does not believe in Schumacher. "When a team criticises the driver so massively in public, as has sometimes been the case, it shows that there is a lack of trust within the team," explained the Red Bull Racing consultant.
Moreover, Marko can well understand Haas' desire to bring in points for the constructors' championship. "The situation at Haas is that with Magnussen there is an experienced driver and if there was an up-and-coming, big talent, I would bet on him. But I don't see anyone there at the moment who meets those conditions."
Quest for successor Schumacher
Should Haas actually part with Schumacher, Guenther Steiner 's team will have to look for a successor. According to Marko, Haas would be wise to bring in Nico Hulkenberg. "He has always delivered. That speaks for him."
