Max Verstappen came in second in the F1 race in Jeddah, behind McLaren driver Oscar Piastri. The Dutchman's minced words were awfully telling about his thoughts on the race defining penalty. At the start of the race, Verstappen went around the outside with Piastri on the inside. The Dutchman then took to the run off complaining that his Australian counterpart had pushed him off the track.
The Stewards, however, did not agree with the
Red Bull Racing driver's assessment and issued him a 5 second time penalty which he served at the pitstops. In the end, his RB21's pace, whilst strong in the clean air, in the dirty air proved to be a bit less compelling, which left Verstappen to cross the finish line in P2, behind Piastri.
Verstappen irritated after penalty in Jeddah
"I'm going to keep it short," said the Dutchman during the on the grid interviews. "A big thank you to the fans here in Jeddah. It's been a great weekend. I love the track."
"The rest, it is what it is. I'm looking forward to Miami, so I will see you there," he concluded.
However, the Dutchman's commens were halted by the British engineer, since a new FIA measures prohibits drivers from issuing statements against race officials, even if they are emitted under race condition related duress. Breaching this guideline may result in sporting penalties.
