Sainz defends Ferrari team boss: 'Mattia has done an excellent job'

At the start of the current Formula 1 season, Ferrari still seemed to be the top favourite for the world title. However, while Red Bull Racing invariably improved, things went downhill at the Italian racing stable. Team boss Mattia Binotto is held responsible by many, but according to Carlos Sainz, this is unjustified.
In the past, such a season would have caused heads to roll at Ferrari, but that is not the case this time. Binotto insists that the mistakes made cannot be blamed on anyone and that no drastic changes are needed at the team.
According to Sainz, Binotto is not to blame
Sainz argues that his team boss faces an incredibly difficult task. "Especially in a team like Ferrari, where there is so much pressure and so much attention on us, and everyone wants changes immediately as soon as something is wrong," the Spaniard says in conversation with BBC.
He therefore has nothing but praise for Binotto. "Mattia has done an excellent job at not losing the cool head at any point. We have had a lot of difficult moments, a lot of criticism, and he has remained stuck to his principles." Despite intense criticism, mainly from Italy, the team boss did not dismiss anyone. "We stayed united in the most difficult moments and it shows the progress of our culture," Sainz added.
