Last year, Christian Horner bid for a tour of Mercedes' factory during the Autosport Awards, this year Sebastian Vettel is the man who spent a lot of money. Indeed, the Aston Martin driver placed a bid on his own sidepod during an auction.

Vettel received the Greg Grant Lifetime Achievement Award at the Autosport Awards on Monday as recognition for his long and fine career in Formula 1. The German himself was present to receive the award on the podium. However, Vettel was not only occupied with the award ceremony, as the now retired driver was in the middle of an online auction for a part of his own Aston Martin. The 35-year-old driver was keen to keep the sidepod of the AMR21 himself for his F1 collection.

"Well, I'm trying to buy my sidepod back. What time is it? Oh no, it's past eleven. Did I get the sidepod? I placed my bid on it. Can you imagine, the team didn't tell me that they're offering my sidepod for an auction, so I'm trying to buy it back. I'm not sure I got it. the retired driver", the German says on the podium at the Autosport Awards.
