Jos Verstappen: "I think that took away a lot from the emotions"

Max Verstappen became the first Formula 1 driver ever to win the world title after the Japanese Grand Prix with four races to go. The way that event went was remarkable, but the Dutchman can laugh about it afterwards.
The FIA seemed to be the only one aware of the points distribution, as the governing body revealed on several occasions that full points were being awarded. However, confusion arose in the paddock, as since the rained-out Belgian GP it was assumed that half points were handed out.
Verstappen could laugh at confusion GP Japan
"It was a bit hectic, but in the end, I think it was quite funny," said Verstappen in the Viaplay documentary Verstappen - Lion Unleashed 2. Besides, he was especially relieved and happy that he managed to capture his second world title already in Japan. "I was super happy and relieved. Also super happy that we could do it in Japan, in front of all the Japanese fans and especially all the Honda people."
Jos Verstappen, on the other hand, regrets the confusion. "I think that took away a lot from the emotions. Even when they were told Max became champion, nobody was 100% sure. That was a bit of a shame. But still, winning a world championship is a great achievement," Jos concludes.
