High expectations for Doohan: 'Goal is title in F2'

Jack Doohan is to become the next driver to advance from Alpine's Academy to Formula 1. The Australian already featured in test and free practice sessions last season - after Alpine and reserve driver Oscar Piastri clashed. But his final breakthrough is still at least a year away.
Indeed, Doohan has a big goal for next season, according to his Alpine team boss Otmar Szafnauer on the official website of Formula 1. Indeed, the son of motorsport legend Mick Doohan must first win the title in Formula 2. "He’ll be part of the Alpine family going forward but his focus for next year will be to win the [Formula 2] championship", the American said.
Bright future
That Doohan can look forward to a bright future, Szafnauer is convinced. “He is really really good. He is very professional for a young man, and he works hard, he prepares himself well. He drives within himself too... so, he’s got great potential.”
Doohan will drive for the British Virtuosi team in 2023. With that team, he finished sixth in the championship last year. It was his first full season at the second-highest level. In 2020, Doohan made his debut in F2 with MP Motorsport. So this year, his task is to take the next step.
