Oscar Piastri starts his first season in Formula 1 at McLaren. His teammate Lando Norris knows how tough it is going into a debut year. However, the Brit is confident Piastri will do well, he told GPblog and others.

The 23-year-old Norris is expected to have many years left in the motorsport class but is already preparing for his sixth season at McLaren. He, therefore, has plenty of experience to share with Piastri and hopes to pass this on to his new teammate.

"I am in Formula One because people expect me to be one of the best drivers in the world," Norris argued. "Going out and just executing it. So that's the thing that you think of, but there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to execute it. And that was the thing I struggled a little bit with in the beginning."

"At times I did an extremely good job in my first year and our performance maybe some expectations and other times when it's just harder to achieve, or you struggle more with the car and things like that, then you lose that bit of confidence."

Learning curve for Piastri at McLaren

Norris is convinced that Piastri's career will not go the same way as his own. Still, he thinks he can make an important contribution, as every driver experiences lesser race weekends. Other than that, however, he believes Piastri must above all learn for himself what it is like to be in Formula 1.

"Everyone comes in at a different point in their career. But it's just there's a lot of things to learn, those are just the things I struggled with a bit more. Maybe some drivers don't struggle with it at all. I think that's probably the most common thing is you're in Formula One for a reason, can you live up to your expectation, which is a lot of expectation obviously. So yeah, but I'm sure he’ll be fine."
