- Cas van de Kleut
In a new video on Mercedes' YouTube channel, Lewis Hamilton looks back on the great moments of the past decade with the German team. Here he reveals, among other things, what his best race in those ten years was.
'Flag was signal to all of Brazil'
According to the Briton, the race in Brazil in the exciting 2021 season will be his best race of the past decade. On Friday, the seven-time world champion grabbed pole position for the sprint race, but after a disqualification due to a technical fault on the rear wing, the Mercedes driver was allowed to start the sprint race last. This one Hamilton finished fifth, but he was downgraded to 10th because of the replacement of his internal combustion engine. In the race, the Briton still finished first after a comeback.
Hamilton is very proud of the victory, explaining in the video on Mercedes' YouTube channel: "When I held the flag up on the podium, it was a signal to everyone within Brazil that I acknowledge you, I appreciate Senna and love Senna. Always have since I was a kid. I was hoping I would lift up the nation in someway, even though I wasn't Brazilian. But now I am Brazilian!"
