Formula 1 breaks record in 2023: Never before has F1 been so competitive
- GPblog.com
A record was broken in Formula 1 in 2023. Never before have all teams had at least one point after three rounds in the championship.
In 2022, new rules were introduced in Formula 1. This was partly to make following another car easier, but another aim was to bring the field closer together. Following in 2023 is already almost as it was before the new regulations, according to several drivers, but the field has certainly moved closer together.
Record in 2023
In 2022, nine teams had at least one point after three races, remarkably only Aston Martin had not scored any points then and that is precisely the team that is doing extremely well now. At the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren and AlphaTauri also scored their first point(s), taking all constructors off zero after three races, which is a record.
Last year, all teams were at one point or more after four races, so this year that has been achieved one race earlier. With the introduction of the budget cap and the new rules, the Formula 1 field was supposed to get closer together. Big teams could spend less from then on and there came an advantage in terms of wind tunnel time if a team finished lower in the championship.
