Alguersauri saw talent at Red Bull: 'He could have become world champion'
- GPblog.com
Jaime Alguersuari points to Sebastien Buemi's successes after his time in Formula 1, with The Spaniard saying that the Swiss driver could even have won the world title with Red Bull. Only in Formula 1 did Buemi fail to break through. He drove for Toro Rosso for three years from 2009 to 2011 but was then not offered a place by Red Bull.
Buemi, who is now earning his stripes outside F1, now has an impressive trophy cabinet. The Swiss driver won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times, became a three-time World Endurance Champion in the WEC and was Formula E champion in 2016.
World champion Buemi
Alguersauri said he is "happy and proud" that Buemi has become so successful in his time after Formula 1. He also said he certainly wonders how many race victories and perhaps world championship titles he would have won with Red Bull in Formula 1, reports Formel1.de.
Both Alguersauri nor Buemi ever drove in the pinnacle of motorsport after 2012. The question of what would have been possible for the 34-year-old in a Red Bull car will probably remain unanswered forever.
