It is raining hard in Imola at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari Circuit. It has been doing so for some time and will continue to do so for some time. An impending flooding of the adjacent river is keeping F1 fans in its grip. The entire F1 paddock was evacuated on Tuesday, during the construction of the motorhomes. This is the weather forecast for the coming weekend.

River Santerno next to Imola circuit threatens to flood

The rain will not stop for now, according to weather analysis from Windy.com and others. The rain will continue throughout the night and there is a very high probability that it will continue to fall until late afternoon on Wednesday. The major problem with the rainfall is that the Santerno River runs right past the track and is in danger of flooding.

If the river floods, the consequences could be very serious, which is why extreme caution is advised. Should the river level not subside, it will remain unsafe to allow F1 personnel into the paddock and continue the F1 weekend. So as soon as it becomes dry (according to the forecast) Thursday night, preparations must be made quickly.

Will there be dry Friday sessions?

Thursday remains otherwise dry and the sun even breaks through briefly here and there. But on Friday when the free practice sessions take place, the chance of rain increases again, with early morning and late afternoon rain. As the predicted amount of rain is very little, there might only be a very small chance they'll be running completely in dry conditions.

On Saturday, the chances of rain are higher again and the predicted amount has also increased a bit. The 1.1 millimetres of rain predicted around 14:00 local time is only a small amount compared to Tuesday and Wednesday's amounts. In the early morning on Wednesday, it looks to be, the heaviest.

Imola qualifying on wet track, likely rain

There is a good chance that a wet qualifying session will take place on Saturday, at least a wet track is expected. Rain is likely to fall from early morning to late evening. The rain diminishes during the night from Saturday to Sunday, but starts falling again in the morning of Sunday. At 14:00 local time just before the 15:00 race start, there will be sunshine and the rain should have stopped.
