Tost looks back on 18 years as team boss: 'It was a fantastic time'
After 18 years at the helm of Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri, Franz Tost will step down as team boss at the end of the 2023 Formula 1 season. The focus has always been to train young drivers, and in this way, he has contributed to two world champions for Red Bull in the form of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
The 67-year-old Tost can look back on his career in Formula 1 with a good feeling. "It was not one highlight. It was a fantastic time to build together with the team, Scuderia AlphaTauri, and in the beginning, Toro Rosso." Tost told Autosport.com in an interview. However, the team boss himself prefers to look at the bigger picture rather than individual results, having managed to build a strong organisation.
Tost on Tsunoda and De Vries
"You have really good people there, you have enthusiastic people there. They have a passion for F1, and they like to work. And it was a real pleasure to build everything up together with these people." said the grateful AlphaTauri team boss.
Tost's team is ninth in the constructors' championship. Through Yuki Tsunoda, AlphaTauri has managed to score two points this season. Despite Nyck de Vries having a hard time so far in Formula 1, Tost is also proud of him. "The two drivers are developing well, which is nice to see," he said.
