Leclerc says Red Bull also favourite in Monaco: 'Still the fastest'
The Monaco Grand Prix is being labelled by many as the race where Red Bull Racing might be defeated for the first time this year. However, Charles Leclerc is not so sure about that yet and stresses that Red Bull is still the team to beat. However, he does see possible opportunities for Ferrari in qualifying.
Leclerc sees Red Bull as favourite
At the press conference ahead of the Monaco GP, Leclerc assesses his own chances. In doing so, he keeps both feet on the ground. "Honestly, I think Red Bull is still the team to beat. With a special lap, maybe we can beat them in qualifying. In the race, they are extremely quick – but again, on a track like this, overtaking is very difficult," said the Ferrari driver.
However, Red Bull is not the only team Ferrari has to consider. "Aston Martin will be in the mix. Mercedes arrived with a very different-looking car, which I'm curious to see how it performs. And yeah, then we need to see where we are and what's possible," continued the 25-year-old Monegasque.
Some have identified the upcoming race through the streets of Monte Carlo as the most unpredictable of the current Formula 1 season, but Leclerc does not entirely agree. "Not really, in a way, because I still believe Red Bull is the fastest," concludes the 2022 vice-world champion.
