What does Steiner say to Hulkenberg after P5? 'Congratulations, no advice needed'
Just before the (temporary) red flag fell, Nico Hulkenberg narrowly drove to P2 in qualifying. Was it enough? No, as the German driver then received a three-place grid penalty afterwards, which means he has to start from fifth place. Despite the penalty, that is still a handsome performance by Haas, with team boss Günther Steiner thinking so too.
There seemed to be no problems for the German as he qualified on the front row of the grid alongside Max Verstappen. But that was not the case, as the German driver received a three-place grid penalty for not keeping to the lap time limit, meaning Hulkenberg now has to start from fifth place.
Can Hulkenberg reach the podium?
Steiner says he would like to see Hulkenberg on the podium. The question remains whether that is possible from P5. It seems unlikely in the Haas. "He's long time in F1, I think he's a very good driver and he just never got that bit of luck," the Italian team boss told Sky Sports.
According to Steiner, Hulkenberg does not need any tips or pointers. So what did the Haas team boss say to the German driver? "Congratulations, he doesn't need advice. He's old enough, you know, he's one of them which knows it all as well," Steiner told them. " It's also a surprise for us for tomorrow," he added.
