Brad Pitt's F1 movie at Silverstone details

Brad Pitt F1 movie: Release date, cast, Silverstone filming and Hamilton

Brad Pitt is currently filming a Formula 1 movie in collaboration with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Pitt will be present at Silverstone during the 2023 British Grand Prix weekend to film scenes for the movie. Here is everything we know so far.

Cast and release date

In January 2022, rumours suggested that Hamilton and Pitt would collaborate to create an F1 movie. Pitt will take the lead role with Hamilton contributing to the scriptwriting. Hamilton was also involved in picking the actor to star alongside Pitt. Besides Hamilton and Pitt, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also involved in the project. The film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also recently made Top Gun: Maverick.

Formula 1 themselves have given the film full cooperation. This is hardly a surprise given what Netflix's Drive to Survive did for Formula 1 and its growth. Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei highlighted how F1 cannot rely on Drive to Survive and needed other sources that carry the same impact.

The cast list hasn't been confirmed in full. Damson Idris is involved along with actress Kerry Condon. IMDb also lists Tobias Menzies as a member of the top cast. The release date is also unknown, but given filming is yet to be finished, it seems like fans will have a long wait.

What is happening at Silverstone?

As the F1 circus arrived at Silverstone, more details have been revealed. Brad Pitt's team will be called Apex GP, with Pitt playing a character called Sonny Hayes. Joshua Pearce will be Hayes' teammate at the team powered by Mercedes.

The British Grand Prix weekend is taking place from Friday 7th July to Sunday 9th July. During this F1 race weekend, Pitt will get to drive on the circuit to film some scenes for the movie. Mercedes have been working on a converted Formula 2 car. Pitt won't be allowed onto the track during any sessions and there will be no other competition cars on the circuit at that time.
