Alonso hopes for mistake Red Bull: 'By pure statistics, that is difficult'
Red Bull Racing with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez still won every race in 2023. The driver who is usually first to pick up what remains is Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard thinks Red Bull can win every race this season, but also calculates a slim chance for himself.
All nine races of 2023 so far have been won by Verstappen and Perez. With the win at the final 2022 race in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull is now on a win streak of 10. Red Bull is likely to continue the victory streak at the Great Britain GP. Verstappen and the RB19 are in blood form and Red Bull's pitfalls are virtually nonexistent.
'Statistically, Red Bull can hardly win 22 times'
On the paddock at the Silverstone circuit, the Spaniard told GPblog and other media, "Yes, they [Red Bull, Verstappen and Perez] can win all the races. I suppose that reliability can be their weak point." Not that Red Bull has had many reliability problems. Alonso can only list Perez's weekend in Austria and Verstappen's qualifying in Saudi Arabia.
Alonso continued: "When you go to a race, second or third, you open the window to win, and I suppose that's the hope we have in the other teams, that there can be a crack, and that even if they can win all the races, by pure statistics, it's difficult to see a car win 22 races in a row, Mercedes didn't win it either, in the time they dominated, Ferrari didn't win it in their good years, so I hope they give us the opportunity, and that Aston Martin have one of our good weekends."
