Norris happy with new McLaren: 'Could almost do the same as Red Bull there'

McLaren was very strong at Silverstone. The team took second and third place in qualifying and managed one podium in the race on Sunday. Still, not everything went smoothly for the British team in 2023, and Lando Norris remembers that very well.
McLaren came a long way
In the opening races of the season, McLaren was one of the slowest teams, if not the slowest. However, at Silverstone, McLaren was the second best team, after the dominant Red Bull Racing. "It's definitely not been pleasent in the car all season. Bahrain was quite the opposite. We do have a poor car and I say poor, I would say pretty terrible in the slow-speed corners, extremely difficult to drive."
McLaren comes close to Red Bull
At Silverstone, McLaren came out well mainly because of the track's characteristics, Norris argues. "We're very, very competitive in high speed. We're almost on par with what Red Bull could achieve. We've improved a lot of things. a lot of it is track-specific. I don't want to get too excited, but good things have come from the upgrade but there's still plenty of things which are a miles away from."
