Formula 1 has held a meeting regarding possible changes to the sport. For example, the Formula 1 committee in Belgium has decided that tyre blankts will be used in 2024 and the equivalence of engines is being investigated, the FIA announced through a press release.

The FIA informs that the Pirell tyre tests showed that the set targets and requirements would be met with the new tyres, which would not need tyre blankets. Despite this, Formula 1 has decided to postpone the abolition of tyre blankets for at least one year. So in 2024, the tyre blankets will 'just' be used and further discussions will take place on their possible abolition in 2025.

Engines not equivalent

The motorsport body also examined whether F1 engines are of equal calibre. In Formula 1, Red Bull-Powertrains (Honda), Renault, Mercedes and Ferrari supply engines to (their own) F1 teams. The FIA has concluded that the engines are not equal enough to each other and will therefore investigate whether there is a way to make any adjustments to get the (engine) playing field more equal.

Winter tests

Next year's winter tests will also be held in Bahrain. Whereas a few years ago a trip to Barcelona seemed to be a regular feature, Bahrain has taken over that baton. The tests will be run from 21 to 23 February.
