The first free practice of the
Belgian Grand Prix has been completed.
Carlos Sainz was the fastest, followed by
Oscar Piastri and
Lando Norris. However, lap times don't say much because a large part of the grid didn't complete a full lap at speed. In addition, the track conditions were very challenging.
On a soaking wet track, the teams stayed quiet for a long time until the asphalt seemed ready for the intermediates. A crash by
Logan Sargeant caused a red flag, forcing the drivers to wait until they were allowed back on the circuit. When the session resumed, some drivers took to the track for a while, but full laps were no longer driven. The result was determined after only 30 minutes.
