How long will Bottas stay? 'This option is becoming more and more logical'
- Toby McLuskie
Valtteri Bottas is not turning a great Formula 1 season so far, it is fair to say. The Finnish driver signed a contract with racing stable Alfa Romeo in 2021 and may continue driving for the Swiss team until 2024. He says it makes more and more sense for him to drive for the team even in the upcoming Sauber era.
Bottas previously did not want to get too far ahead of himself when it came to the team's future potential, but he has now admitted that it would be positive for him to stay on board at Alfa Romeo until the Audi era.
Bottas at Sauber?
Asked if he was interested in staying with the team until 2026, Bottas told Motorsport.com: "The more I think about it, yes. For me, it's an interesting era for the team. When you are focused on the here and now, you don’t want to sometimes think too far ahead – but then if I really think about it, and the long term plan, then it would make sense."
So far this season, Bottas has scored five points for Alfa Romeo. With this, he has managed to score one more point than teammate Guanyu Zhou. The Swiss team is not running a great season so far, but did surprise recently during qualifying in Hungary.
