Verstappen on critical stance: 'Worry about the sport I like'
This Formula 1 season, there is no measure of reigning world champion Max Verstappen. It seems only a matter of time before the Dutchman wins his third Formula 1 world championship. Despite the fact that this world title seems to be a formality soon, Verstappen still often remains critical of Formula 1.
Why is the two-time world champion so concerned about Formula 1's set-up? "Yes, because I worry about the sport I always really liked," Verstappen told De Telegraaf in an interview . "I still like it, but to a certain extent. It is also not that I am completely against changes, as is sometimes claimed. But they have to be adjustments that benefit Formula 1," he concluded.
Verstappen explains critical stance
At the start of the season, Verstappen voiced a lot of criticism of the sprint format. The 25-year-old driver explains why that was so. "Why do you have to change certain things if it is running well? I think a traditional qualifying session is set up just fine in that form. It shouldn't just be about money," Verstappen explained.
Together with Red Bull Racing's RB19, Verstappen has become (almost) unbeatable in 2023. The man who became world champion for the first time on 12 December 2021 looks set to take the world title again this year. That would be the third year in a row. Going into the summer break, Verstappen has a 125-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez.
