Max Verstappen had a disappointing qualifying session, yet Sergio Perez failed to qualify ahead of his Dutch teammate. The Mexican ended qualifying in Q2, finishing 13th. So it was a day to quickly forget for Perez too.
Perez and Red Bull looking for answers
"I don't know, I don't really understand," Perez said in a conversation with Viaplay after qualifying. "We don't understand as a team at the moment what's been going on, but it's been a very tricky qualifying, very tricky weekend up to now, and then my attempt in Q2 just made it worse. I had a massive lag getting back on the throttle and then a very big spike of delivery on the engine, and I couldn't control the car."
Naturally, Red Bull are looking for answers: how could things go so wrong? "There are many things. I have my suspicions, we need to figure it out and make sure that we are able to understand it."
