Yuki Tsunoda has responded to the discussions held after the Bahrain Grand Prix at Red Bull Racing, while also talking about the struggles Max Verstappen went through in the desert.
Tsunoda was confronted with statements by Max Verstappen about the post-race meeting. In response, the Red Bull Racing driver said: “The post-race briefing, obviously, the mood was not the happiest mood in the engineering room. At some point, that briefing is for the limitation of what we want to have built throughout the week, and we just try to share our feelings.”
The Japanese driver continued: “I don't know what the high-level team are talking about. If it's about [the team's problems], then the mood was probably less cheerful than usual, but maybe he [Verstappen] had a different meeting with Red Bull.

Tsunoda saw Verstappen struggling

The new Red Bull Racing driver was also asked if he was surprised by the difficulties Verstappen experienced: “I think Bahrain was the track that the RB21's weaknesses were exaggerated quite a lot more than other tracks. Like the brake issues, I also had issues from FP1, and I was already mentioning it. It's not a thing that we can solve immediately. And I remember I just stopped saying that because there's no point to keep complaining. I just wanted to talk about different stuff.
“But yeah, it also seemed like Max was struggling. And at the same time, it's difficult because Max had no idea how to improve during the weekend. A lot was happening, the car was sliding, the car wasn't really responding to the setup we had as he would have liked.”
Tsunoda finally said, “I was focused on completely different things. It feels like I'm a rookie in the team, so I was trying to have a different mindset and I was trying to figure out the setup. I know how Max built confidence through the weekend, compared to how I did it. It was completely different because he didn't have much confidence in this car. So, I kept my distance and tried to do well in the qualification.”
