Red Bull's poor performance at the Singapore Grand Prix coincided with the introduction of a new technical directive. Some said the Austrian's poor weekend could be reconciled with the FIA's new rules for flexi-wings [TD019]. British Formula One expert Peter Windsor knew this was not the case immediately.

At the Japan Grand Prix, these rumours were quashed pretty quickly when it turned out that Max Verstappen took the pole with a big lead and took the victory at Suzuka with ease.

Windsor already knew

"I'm not saying beating the chest saying I was right, but I was right, " the 71-year-old analyst from England reveals in a YouTube video from Cameron F1. "And I wasn't the only person, obviously. I think most of the Formula One team people, even Red Bull's opposition, were all saying, nah, it's not a technical directive, no way in the world," Windsor says.

Windsor tells an anecdote about Red Bull and the TD: "When I came into the paddock, journalists came up to me. They said: 'The FIA have really done it now. They've really changed Formula One. Red Bull are in massive trouble. They've been cheating.' I just looked at them and thought, 'Are we on the same planet Earth or what'?"
