Perez on nail-biting clash with Alonso: ‘Fair racing with Alonso as always'
So close, but it was not meant to be. Sergio Perez was on the edge of stepping on the podium at Interlagos, but he finished behind Fernando Alonso by only 0.053 seconds. However, he still managed to earn eight more points than Lewis Hamilton today in his quest for P2 in the drivers' standings.
"He got me back. I ran out of energy and then he got me back. It was a good, fair racing as always with Fernando. Very enjoyable to race against him and today I lost in a simple as that. He did a great job," Sergio Perez explained the battle between him and Alonso to Viaplay.
The Mexican was close to overtaking the Aston Martin driver for the second time on the final straight, but he just missed out on the podium. "No, I wasn't sure if I got him or not but I saw the screen very quickly and I could see that we didn't get him unfortunately."
The Red Bull driver still thinks this weekend in Brazil was decent. "Yes, the whole weekend was really good. We were just very unlucky with the yellow flag from Friday. Otherwise, I think we should have been a lot further up," Perez concluded.
