Scare for Jos Verstappen: Max's dad had heart surgery in 2023
- Ludo van Denderen
World titles from his son Max Verstappen or not, health is always the most important thing. There was a bit of a scare for Jos Verstappen earlier in 2023, when he was told an operation on his heart was necessary. That is now behind him, he told Formula 1, and Verstappen senior is now feeling fine again.
"It's annoying what I had, but now I'm fully fit again," stated the former F1 driver, who was out of the running for some time due to surgery. As a result, Jos Verstappen missed some of the Grands Prix, although he obviously continued to closely follow the Red Bull driver's exploits from a distance.
Jos Verstappen put things into perspective more
"An operation on your heart is always exciting, you are then dependent on other people and that is never nice. Anyway, these specialists know what they are doing. That puts things into perspective and makes you appreciate things even more: I have a nice wife and two children with whom I want to do nice things for as long as possible," Jos said.
In the past Grands Prix, Jos Verstappen could already be found in Red Bull's pit box. He also drove rallies in the Belgian and Spanish championships. Of these, the former driver of Benetton, Arrows and Simtek, among others, won one. That was his first win in rallying.
