Verstappen shares secret about crucial Grand Prix preparation: 'Nothing!'
Max Verstappen, who became world champion in Qatar, had an incredible season in his RB19. The Red Bull driver smashed many records, managing to win no fewer than 19 Grands Prix in the 2023 Formula 1 season. A well-known saying is: good preparation is half the battle. Does this also apply to Verstappen? The Dutchman himself explains.
"Everyone is quite different in their approach before they get in the car," opened Verstappen in an interview at Viaplay. "That's kind of the beauty of it, because if everyone is the same, well. Some need music before they get in their car, and some still need to warm up completely with certain reactivity things," noted the three-time world champion.
Verstappen on his own preparation
"I'm like, I want to do as little as possible actually, because if things go badly you can't say, 'Yeah no but I didn't do this, I didn't do that'," the 26-year-old driver continued. For Verstappen, not much is crucial in the preparation he explainsed. "Yes actually nothing, only my trainer wants me to do those reaction things. I'm fine with it all," he admits with a laugh.
Despite criticism, offered by Verstappen himself, of the 'Sportsman of the Year' election, the Formula 1 driver is among the nominees. He still called the election in October a ridiculous prize, which he did not want to win. Should Verstappen nevertheless receive this award, it would be the fourth time in his career.
