You can think what you like about Max Verstappen but that he can drive a car, we all know that. Last Monday, Verstappen was in the Algarve where he had hired the circuit for friends and family. However, he was not given a hire car at the airport, The Sun reports.

Car rental company Sixt says that renting the car to Verstappen would go against their insurance terms, as Verstappen is not yet 30 years old. So the 26-year-old Dutchman, who is used to going over 330km/h, was not allowed to take the Mercedes car that goes up to 320km/h. Verstappen was eventually given a BMW that can go a maximum of 249km/h. In the end, manager Raymond Vermeulen drove away with the Mercedes.

Criticism father Jos

Father Jos Verstappen denies on X that this happened. ''What nonsense,'' Jos said. Which is crazy because The Sun spoke to the landlord. The latter said the staff merely followed the rules and that a suitable solution was found with Max Verstappen. "However, there can be special circumstances that justify a deviation from rules. This is such a case. We apologise to Mr Verstappen. He can rent the car he wants from us at any time.''

Update

Perhaps Jos Verstappen's denial can be traced back to the type of car that, according to The Sun, Verstappen did not receive. The English newspaper reports that it is a Mercedes. GPblog has delved into Sixt's rental conditions and it states that cars classified in the XTAM category can be rented by customers aged thirty and older. The branch in Faro only has Porsches in this category. The luxury Mercedes can be rented by anyone aged 25 and older. Verstappen meets that condition.
