A setback for the 10 Formula 1 teams. Testing is already limited to three hourly days this season, so every minute on track is precious. But the first session on the second day was aborted prematurely. With an hour and a half left on the clock, a red flag was waved because of a loose drain. The test was not resumed in the morning. Charles Leclerc had recorded the fastest time in the previous 2.5 hours.

Logan Sargeant was a surprise on the second day, with the third fastest time. He was even ahead of Sergio Perez's Red Bull with his Williams. The Mexican came to a limited number of laps (20) due to a brake problem early in the session. Perez will hand the seat back to Max Verstappen in the afternoon, so for now the test in Bahrain is not a success for the Mexican.

Like Perez, Lewis Hamilton also made his first appearance on Thursday. He achieved the sixth fastest time with his Mercedes, well behind Leclerc. Hulkenberg (Haas) and Tsunoda (VCARB) were yet to clock up fast times.
