Mercedes set to "go for broke" in Abu Dhabi

21 November 2018 at 09:34

Championship wise, the season is over for Mercedes. But they will head to the season finale full of optimism and fight according to Toto Wolff. The team have no plans to lift off as they attempt to kill any momentum Ferrari and Red Bull pick up for the winter break.

Lewis Hamilton won his title in Mexico, while the team completed the double in Brazil last time out. Valtteri Bottas, who hasn't won a race in 2018, still has 3rd and 4th place to fight for.

Toto Wolff talks about the celebrations and how he wants the Silver Arrows to perform in Abu Dhabi.

“The celebrations in Brixworth and Brackley last week were a very humbling experience. Claiming the fifth consecutive double Championship – an experience that only very few people in the sport have had before – felt amazing and we all cherished that moment," Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said.

“At the same time, everyone is extremely keen to continue to raise the bar together and be even stronger in 2019. For now, we have one race to go in 2018 and we want to put on a great show for the fans who supported us through the season, be it at the track, in front of their TV or on social media.

“The Championship pressure is off, so we can look at this as one race where we can really go for broke.”

Despite the circuit having slow and medium corners, Mercedes have won the last four races on the Yas Marina circuit. The only other winners on the track are Red Bull who picked up the three previous victories.

“We know, too, that it will be a tough battle because both Red Bull and Ferrari will have the same target of taking good momentum into the winter," added Wolff
