Toto Wolff is talking about signing
Max Verstappen and
Helmut Marko, but in the meantime he seems to be losing his current right-hand man. According to Motorsport.com, Jerome D'Ambrosio is making the move to
Ferrari.
Jerome D'Ambrosio is no unknown name in motorsport. The Belgian drove 20 Grands Prix in
Formula 1 between 2011 and 2012 and was also active in Formula E. As team boss, D'Ambrosio was successful with Venturi in
Formula E, before making his return to
F1 at Mercedes. There, he has been at the helm of the Junior Team since 2023. In that role, the Belgian works closely with Gwen Lagrue.
Big loss for Mercedes
Yet this partnership is coming to an end. Mercedes confirmed to GPblog.com that D'Ambrosio will leave the team at the end of 2024. The Belgian would like to move back to Europe and therefore does not want to extend his expiring contract. His future plans are not known to Mercedes.
According to
Motorsport.com, however, the Belgian knows what he will do. He is said to be making the move to
Ferrari, to run their Academy. Jock Clear is currently running it. However, the latter has such a wide range of duties at Ferrari that support at the junior level would be welcome. When asked, Ferrari would not comment on the rumours.
