Why family is extremely important to Perez in an uncertain time

With a fine start to the season, Sergio Perez's future is still uncertain as several drivers are vying for his seat at Red Bull Racing. Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, Christian Horner warned that he shouldn't expect a contract deal soon. Perez can count on the support of his family during this uncertain period.

What will Perez's future be?

Over the last two seasons, Perez has been under pressure to retain his seat alongside Max Verstappen. Yet he has managed to stay strong. "I think it’s important that when you commit to Formula 1, you’re fully committed. Until the last day of Formula 1, that’s the approach I take." His commitment can also be seen this season, with three podiums in the last four races.

However, without a new contract, the future of Mexico remains uncertain. "The priority is to remain here for the future. That’s something that I think is just a matter of time. The most important for now is to come on track and focus on the season, the current season." Still, the driver is not worried. "Obviously, if you as a team and as a driver have the same targets in mind, the same common targets, it’s all very easy. Especially after so many years. We’ve been doing it for four years. I do expect that everything will be quite easy going forward."

Perez's biggest reason for continuing is his family. "I've been fully committed to Formula 1, since when I started. Because it’s important to do that for my family. I’m still very fresh and very motivated."
