This is Lance Stroll's excuse for crashing with Ricciardo in China
Lance Stroll did not make himself any more popular during the Chinese Grand Prix. The Canadian crashed into the back of Daniel Ricciardo just after the first safety car restart. Afterwards, however, the Aston Martin driver was unaware of any wrongdoing.
Ricciardo is furious with the Aston Martin driver. After all, the Australian was on for his first points finish during the 2024 season, hoping to build momentum with a new chassis. Eventually, the Visa Cash App RB driver was forced to retire.
What is Lance Stroll's excuse for the crash?
"There was like a concertina effect. I had Ricciardo stopping right in front of me and then I had nowhere to go even when I saw him brake like that. So I don't think it was just him. I think it's probably someone at the front with a brake and then a natural concertina effect. And unfortunately, we were the ones with damage," Stroll stated in front of Viaplay's microphone.
In the replay of the incident, Stroll appeared to be looking in his mirrors. But he himself denies this. "No, not really. I was kind of looking ahead, but it was just a concertina effect," concluded Stroll, who finished fifteenth.
