Marko: 'Verstappen could learn something from Norris'
Lando Norris was the celebrated man last weekend, the Briton winning a Formula 1 race for the first time in his career. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko watched this with sorrow, but for now he is not worried about the rest of this season.
Prior to the weekend, Marko was already worried about the Austrian racing stable's pace. "Unfortunately I was right, we were just too slow," he stated in conversation with OE24. Asked if there was any damage to Verstappen's car, the Red Bull coryfee replied as follows: "Max said it was not that serious, but the fact is that we were slower than McLaren."
Marko does note that Norris was lucky with the timing of the safety car, after which Norris lost less time with his tyre change. "That's true, without that safety car it would probably have been difficult to close the gap and overtaking is very difficult in Miami," he said.
"Max maintains a very friendly relationship with Norris. They also often meet outside the races. In fact, when it comes to partying, Max could learn a thing or two from Norris," Marko said of the rapport between Norris and Verstappen.
Despite Verstappen being second best over last weekend, Marko does not fear for the rest of the season. "There are fears that Norris will be even more dangerous now because the pressure is gone. But I am not worried. Norris is more than 50 points behind and we bring an update to Imola that I expect a lot from. But the Miami race shows that we have to concentrate on the sport."
