Leclerc jokes about being family with Piastri: 'Exciting day'
- Tygo Bekkema
Oscar Piastri has recently been making jokes within the Formula 1 paddock. The Australian wants to make it seem as if every race is a home race for him and was thus looking for Monegasque roots. The Australian was successful, as polesitter Charles Leclerc offered to 'adopt' him before his home race. The Leclerc 'brothers' now fill the front row of the grid for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
Leclerc acknowledges, jokingly, that it is exciting that the two are on the front row of the grid. He isn't worried the two will clash. "I mean we are family. So starting on the front row both of us will have a meeting with my mum tonight and I'm sure she will calm us down, hopefully, I can get through Turn one in the first position and Oscar in the second place." Leclerc stated in the post-qualifying press conference.
Piastri wants to pass Leclerc at turn one
Piastri hopes to pass Leclerc during the race. "Might try and bribe your mum to let me go through," he states with a smile on his face. He then looks at his chances seriously. "It's a short run, obviously, and it is Monaco still, but the race isn't all won and lost at Turn 1. There are still some things you can do. You can put pressure on and make the right strategy calls, and it can still get you through. So, yeah, it's not the be-all and end-all, but it would certainly make life a bit easier."
