George Russell was fastest during qualifying for the
Canadian Grand Prix and may start from pole position during Sunday's race. During the third free practice,
Max Verstappen finished second on the timesheet, but qualifying was no different
For
Sergio Perez, who has just re-signed his contract with Red Bull, qualifying was soon over. The Red Bull driver broke off his fast lap with five minutes left on the clock to be in time for a faster run just before the clock hit zero. The Mexican barely improved and fell outside the top 15.
After Q2,
Carlos Sainz and
Charles Leclerc had also finished. The two Ferraris were pushed out of the top ten by Aston Martin drivers
Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Due to this unexpected turn of events, both
Daniel Ricciardo and
Yuki Tsunoda, who extended his contract, finished in Q3.
