Norris left frustrated by McLaren's decision in Canadian Grand Prix

Lando Norris believes he should've won the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix and is keen to discuss what he calls a 'wrong call' made by himself and the McLaren team. In the end, Norris finished in second place behind Max Verstappen.

Norris got lucky with a timely safety car in the Miami Grand Prix, but he experienced the opposite of that good fortune in Canada. This time, the safety came out when he was leading. His rivals pitted immediately, but he stayed out on track for longer. Norris pitted and returned in P3.

"We should have won the race today and we didn't. It's frustrating. We had the pace. Probably not in the dry at the end, but we should have won today, it's as simple as that. We didn't do a good enough job as a team to box when we should have done and not get stuck behind the safety cars, so I don't think it was lucky or unlucky," Norris said.

Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen were quick to brand the incident as unfortunate and a payback for Miami. But Norris disagrees. "I don't think it was the same as Miami. This was just making a wrong call so it's on me and it's on the team, and it's something we'll discuss after, but we should have won today," Norris added.

McLaren have made huge gains over the last 12 months and have now challenged Verstappen consistently. Norris has achieved five podiums in 2024 and his top results are becoming more consistent. The Brit explains McLaren are no longer simply happy with a podium finish.

"I think we're at a level now where we're not satisfied with a second, the target is to win and we didn't do that, so frustrating, but a tough race, and still [okay] to end up in second when we could've finished lower," he said.
